Resolution 2018-04: Request for Assistance in Purchasing Native Land Allotments for Sale

WHEREAS, Congress Enacted the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) to recognize and settle and settle the aboriginal claims of Alaska Natives to their traditional homelands by establishing Alaska Native Corporations to receive and manage settlement lands and funds; and

WHEREAS, the future success of hunting and fishing activities by tribal members is dependent on the use of traditional lands; and

WHEREAS, dozens of Native allotments are for sale in the Tanana Chiefs Conference Region; and

WHEREAS, tribes do not have access to enough funds to purchase these lands before they are purchased by non-native hunters and guides. 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Tanana Chiefs Conference Full Board of Directors hereby directs staff to identify funds to assist tribes in the purchase of Native Allotments for sale within the Tanana Chiefs Conference Region; and 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Tanana Chiefs Conference Full Board of Directors hereby requests Doyon, Limited, and the village corporations to assist tribes in the purchase of Native Allotments for sale within the Tanana Chiefs Conference Region.
