Paul Williams House: Helping Clients Build Independent Lives

Sometimes, meaningful progress starts with the everyday things we all do – preparing a meal, keeping a living space clean, managing a budget, making an appointment, or finding something enjoyable to do in the community.

At TCC’s Paul Williams House (PWH), those everyday skills are part of a larger goal: helping adults living with serious mental illnesses build confidence, strengthen their independence, and create the lives they want to live.

PWH is a supportive living program that provides intensive case management and individual and group Community and Recovery Support Services. Staff work alongside clients to develop independent living skills, navigate their mental health, coordinate healthcare appointments, and connect with resources that support recreation, socialization, and financial independence.

Life at PWH is intentionally structured to feel as normal as possible. Residents have household responsibilities, spend time in the community, and engage in regular outings with staff. They are encouraged to discover activities they enjoy and build connections beyond the house, including through Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation’s Adaptive Recreation Program.

Success looks different for every client. Some may transition to living with family or into an apartment, while others may move into a group home or assisted living setting. Some continue receiving outpatient case management and participating in PWH groups after moving on.

Most importantly, the program meets clients where they are and supports them as they work toward their individual goals.
