Family Services

Family Services provides a range of programs assisting individuals and families in rural communities. Financial support is provided by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.

  • Social Services Program offers referrals from department staff in Fairbanks to Village staff and clients requesting services.
  • Indian Child Welfare Act Program provides technical assistance and information to village councils and individual families involved in exercising their rights under ICWA.
  • Birth to Five Head Start Program provides educational services to about 229 children in seventeen villages.
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program provides financial help to 1,500 households each year to offset the costs of home heating in rural areas.
  • Child Care and Development Block Grant is a grant program intended to increase the availability and affordability of quality child care services.
  • State Medicaid Senior & Disability Services provide family directed respite and support services for families of children and adults who have intellectual developmental disabilities.
  • Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation provides coordination of services for village adolescents and adults with disabilities.
  • Elder Nutrition provides village-based nutrition and social services to the region’s elders.
  • Emergency Food and Shelter provides nutrition and housing services for families in crisis.
