TCC Covid-19 Vaccine Open to Public

Tanana Chiefs Conference will be opening up COVID-19 vaccine appointments to all Fairbanks residents age 45 and up beginning Tuesday, March 9. Those interested in getting the vaccine can visit our website at www.tananachiefs.org/vaccine-request to sign up. There will be a limited number of appointments available each day, so we ask for everyone’s patience as our scheduling staff work through a large volume of requests.

“We are excited to be able to offer the vaccine to the greater Fairbanks community,” says Chief/Chairman PJ Simon, “The more people within the community who are vaccinated, the closer we will get to herd immunity and the better protected everyone will be.”

Last week, TCC surpassed 11,000 doses of vaccines administered since receiving the first doses of Pfizer in late December with roughly half of those doses administered in rural communities. By Friday, March 5, TCC had successfully administered both first and second doses of the vaccine to all 26 villages that TCC provides healthcare for. In late February, TCC opened vaccination appointments to employees of the Fairbanks North Star School District.

“I am proud of the staff here at TCC who have worked tirelessly to ensure that our tribal communities receive the vaccine,” says Chief Simon. “It is because of their hard work that we are now able to offer the vaccine to those who do not normally receive care at our health facilities.”

TCC plans to look at lowering the age range again in the future as appointments become available in the vaccine clinic. An announcement will be made once that decision is determined.
