Resolution 2018-21: Tribal Stewardship Plans for Traditional Territories

WHEREAS, in the interest of protection of land used for traditional hunting and gathering by the Indigenous People of Alaska and to ensure the land is protected for future generations of the tribal members of this region; and

WHEREAS, a traditional land use plan is important to our tribes to protect our natural resources; and

WHEREAS, a plan should be developed with the assistance of Tanana Chiefs Conference through a public process that captures the vast areas used by our ancestors for sustainability and prosperity; and

WHEREAS, these plans are a tool that assists in the protection of our traditional land use areas for future generations to utilize; and

WHEREAS, these plans are intended to keep lands traditionally used, protected for continual use now and in the future; and

WHEREAS, we ask all public, private, and non-profit entities serving our region to work together to protect our natural resources using these plans.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Tanana Chiefs Conference Full Board of Directors include in the TCC strategic plans an initiative to assist each tribe, upon request, with tribal stewardship plans for traditional land use areas.
