Rampart recently welcomed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials from Washington, D.C., and Region 10, including Thomas Croci, Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Land and Emergency Management.
During the visit, Rampart leadership shared the community’s strengths, history, and challenges, including fuel storage in remote communities and aging water and sanitation infrastructure. The delegation also toured Rampart’s new waste heat and biomass plant, which impressed the visitors.
EPA officials demonstrated a genuine interest in listening and learning about the community’s needs and Tribal history. The visit also featured local hospitality, with community members serving moose soup, moose chili, and frybread.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen understanding between federal officials and rural Interior Alaska communities.
