State Disaster Assistance Now Available for Tok Fire

Tanana Chiefs Conference is sharing an important update for individuals and families impacted by the Mukluk Fire near Tok.

Governor Mike Dunleavy has issued a disaster declaration for the Alaska Gateway Regional Education Attendance Area (REAA), including Tok, activating the State of Alaska’s Public and Individual Assistance programs.

Individual Assistance Now Available

Residents within the Alaska Gateway REAA whose primary residence or essential personal property was damaged by the fire are encouraged to apply for State Individual Assistance as soon as possible.

Individual Assistance may help eligible individuals and families with disaster-related needs that are not covered by insurance or other assistance, including:

  • Housing assistance, including repairs to a primary residence
  • Essential personal property, such as clothing, household items, appliances and certain subsistence equipment
  • Transportation assistance for a primary vehicle
  • Disaster-related medical and dental expenses
  • Funeral expenses
  • Temporary housing assistance for individuals and families displaced from their primary residence

The application period is open now through October 19, 2026. Those impacted by the fire are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

When applying, please be prepared to provide information such as:

  • A description of damages and/or losses
  • Home ownership documentation
  • Insurance information
  • Personal identification
  • Proof of occupancy, such as a utility bill

Residents should also document damages with photos and videos before beginning repairs and keep receipts for disaster-related expenses. Those with insurance should file a claim with their insurance provider, as State Individual Assistance cannot duplicate benefits covered by private insurance.
