Attention Young Adults – Need Your Driver’s License?
TCC Youth Services is offering support for young adults (ages 16–24) who want to obtain their Alaska driver’s license.
Who is eligible?
- Must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe (demonstrated through Tribal ID card or verification letter) or have a valid CIBC (Certificate of Indian Blood Card).
- Must have held a driver’s permit for at least 6 months with a clean driving record.
- Must receive pre‑approval from TCC Youth Services before taking the course.
What’s Covered
For Fairbanks-based youth:
- TCC Youth Services will reimburse the cost of the driver’s education course.
For village-based youth:
- TCC Youth Services will pay the class fee.
- Participant is responsible for travel to/from Fairbanks, meals, and lodging.
Course Details
- Instruction provided by North Star Driving School in Fairbanks.
- Includes 1 day (8 hours) of classroom lecture and up to 6 hours of in‑town driving lessons. Driving lessons are scheduled in 2-hour slots, one-on-one with an instructor. No more than 2 hours of driving in one day is allowed.
- If under 18 years old, you must bring an original notarized parental/guardian consent form to the DMV to take the road test.
Pre‑Approval Requirements
You must submit the following to TCC Youth Services before enrolling:
- Completed TCC Youth Eligibility Application
- Copy of driver’s permit
- Verification of tribal enrollment (tribal ID, verification letter or copy of CIBC)
- Notarized Parental Consent Form (if under 18)
After Course Completion
Submit to TCC Youth Services:
- Receipt from the driving school
- Proof of course completion
