Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) hosted the Tribal Workforce Development Specialist (TWDS) Conference August 4–6 in Fairbanks, bringing staff together for three days of learning, connection, and collaboration focused on strengthening support for families and communities.
The conference featured presentations and activities from across TCC programs, including TANF, Energy Assistance, Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation, Employment and Training, Childcare, Tribal Social Services, Tribal Protective Services, and the VPSO Program. Participants explored topics including building resilience, employment barriers, family stability, trauma-informed conversations, and client-centered approaches.
Through scenario-based activities and opportunities to connect across programs, participants strengthened their understanding of available resources and how TCC teams can work together to better serve families. The conference’s three themes—Stabilizing the Family, Building Trust/Identifying Needs, and Working Together—highlighted the importance of collaboration in supporting the people and communities TCC serves.
The conference provided an opportunity for TWDS staff to share knowledge, build relationships, and strengthen the connections that help TCC programs work together to support families throughout the region.
