Celebrating the End of the Head Start School Year

Another Head Start school year has come to an end. Four communities across our region hosted graduations for their 3–5-year-old students: Huslia had 10 graduates, Tok had 11, 3–5-year-olds, and Tetlin had 1. Congratulations to our littlest learners! We can’t wait to see where your education takes you next.

Northway and Huslia staff worked with families to sew dresses and vests for the graduates. Tribal Social Services (TSS) partnered with Head Start to provide the materials for regalia making. Many people in both communities came together to help sew for the children. Mahsi’ choo to everyone who contributed to this special effort!

Congratulating Our Staff

The program also has one staff member who earned her Associates of Applied Science (A.A.S) in Rural Human Services in May 2026: Tanya Yatlin. Tanya (Tonz) is a Huslia Tribal member that lives in Fairbanks and works as one of the Head Start Family Advocates.

Tanya has worked for the program since 2014, and for TCC in some capacity for 22 years. Through her time in the program, she has worked as a Family Visitor in Huslia, Data Entry Technician, and a Family Advocate since 2024. The program is proud of her and her dedication to her education.

Tanya is continuing her education and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development & Family Studies.
