TCC Mourns the Passing of First Traditional Chief Don Honea Sr.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our First Traditional Chief Donald Honea Sr. of Ruby. Chief Honea has served as First Traditional Chief of the Tanana Chiefs Conference region since 2008 and has spent much of his life dedicated to serving the Alaska Native People. He founded the Ruby Native Council – serving as both Mayor and Council Member for 20 years. He has also served as president of the Dineega Corporation, Chief of Ruby, Chairman of the Yukon-Koyukuk School District and served on the board for Doyon, Limited, Koyukuk Development Board, and RurAlCAP.

Don Honea Sr

We are honored that Chief Honea chose to share his life story as part of our Legacy of Our Elders series. In his video he encouraged future generations to pursue their goals. “Perseverance – Whatever [you] decide in life, don’t give up on it.”

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for his guidance, leadership, and service throughout the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the community of Ruby during this difficult time.
