Old Minto Family Recovery Camp

OMFRC has moved from a cohort style treatment facility to open enrollment, which means clients will go into camp when a bed is available.

In order to receive the next available bed space at the camp:

• All the necessary paperwork must be turned in. See Requirements below.
• Application and assessment has been approved by the clinical and administrative supervisors.

You will then be given a date that you will go into treatment. All potential clients who have completed the process will be put on a list in the order by which the paperwork and approval was granted.

In addition to daily groups and individual counseling sessions, residents:

• Gather firewood
• Haul water
• Fish
• Hunt
• Work together completing daily chores.

Old Minto Family Recovery Camp is a Level 3.5 Clinically Managed High-Intensity Residential Services. Clients stay for a minimum of 35 days to give them enough time to get a good foundation for their recovery. After completing residential treatment at Old Minto clients will most likely be recommended for aftercare services to reinforce the progress made in treatment.

Clients will only travel to and from camp on Wednesdays and clients will stay in camp for a minimum of 35 days. Clients who have been told that they will go to camp on the next change out will be required to complete the intake process at the OMFRC office.

Those living in the Fairbanks area will need to come into OMFRC office on Monday to do their intake paperwork. Those living outside of the Fairbanks area will need to come in to the OMFRC office on Tuesday to do their intake paperwork.

Old Minto is closed from late April until early June for river break-up and training for staff. Clients go into camp every Wednesday by plane in the winter and boat during the summer months. The last day for new clients to go to camp before we close for river break-up is around the third week of March.

The first step to determine if you are eligible for services is to complete the enrollment application (PDF 1mb). If you are sending by fax 907-459-3835, please list everything that you are faxing on the cover page and you must call to confirm that we received the fax at 907-452-8251 ext. 3097. If your partner will attend with you, he or she must also complete all requirements.

Once our office receives your application, a Behavioral Heath Consultant will contact you to do a screening.  It is very important that you provide a phone number where you can be reached for the screening. After the screening process, your name will be added to a list and it will be your responsibility to get an assessment and turn it in to OMFRC. If you don’t have an assessment dated within the last 3 months, we can offer to schedule you one with our counselors.  If you are in a village, one can be completed over the video telecom conferencing (VTC). Your local clinic or tribal office will need to be equipped with a VTC, as well. Once your assessment is received the Clinical Supervisor will review your assessment to determine if OMFRC will be an appropriate placement for you. If not, we can assist you in finding appropriate treatment.

After your assessment has been approved for services, we will need the following. All forms needed are attached.

• Criminal History is required for all persons over the age of 18 who will be attending the program. OMFRC requires the criminal history to be acquired from the Alaska State Troopers Office within 3 months of your admission. There is a $20 dollar cash fee for each request. You will need 2 pieces of photo identification (ID) in order for them to release your criminal history to you. Acceptable ID’s are the following: (1) Alaska driver’s license (2) Alaska ID card (3) Tribal card (4) organ donor card with picture. If you plan to pick up a criminal history report when you get here, please do not forget to bring your two pieces of photo id. If you do not have required id’s, you will not be able to pick up your criminal history report and OMFRC will not admit you. Any individual convicted of a sexual offense or with extensive history of violence will not be admitted into OMFRC.
•  Physical Exam (PDF 28KB) completed within 3 months is required for all members of the family attending the program. The physical can only be completed and signed by a medical doctor or a physician assistant.  Sorry we cannot accept physicals from a Community Health Aide.
• Verification of Eligibility to receive services. First time applicants are required to fill out the registration form at the top of this page to create a chart with TCC. The Registration department would like this two weeks in advance of your arrival. You will need to include in the packet a copy of your (CIB card) Certificate of Indian Blood, birth certificate and a state id for each individual. You can request a registration packet by calling 459-3800 ext. 3087. Registration staff is also available to assist you with alternate resources and may call to help you with the process.
• Application and Assessments are due as soon as possible to determine eligibility into OMFRC.

Old Minto Family Recovery Camp lies in the original village of old Minto, 40 miles west of Fairbanks on the Tanana River and is only accessible by:

• boat
• plane
• snow machine

We provide transportation from Fairbanks to Old Minto and back. In the summer, the camp is reached by river boat and in the winter by plane.

Clients stay in a natural surrounding and live in cabins with:

• wood stoves for heat
• kerosene lamps for light
• no water
• no electricity

There is a generator for phone use and food storage. Phone use is limited.
