WHEREAS, Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) is an Alaska Native tribal health and social services consortium established by the Interior Alaska tribes and tribal communities, to provide a unified voice in advancing sovereign tribal governments through the promotion of physical and mental wellness, education, socioeconomic development and culture of the Interior Alaska Native; and
WHEREAS, Tom Kriska continuously serves the communities in the Tanana Chiefs Conference region as a volunteer for the past thirty years plus; and
WHEREAS, Tom Kriska was born to the late Kokrine Hughey Kriska and his late wife Eleanor in the village of Koyukuk, Alaska and was raised the traditional way of trapping, hunting, and fishing. Tom is a respected clean and sober person who participated in the Yukon 800 Boat Raace, the Iron Dog Snow Machine Race, played in and umpired numerous village softball/basketball tournaments; and
WHEREAS, Tom Kriska has been a committed volunteer throughout the TCC region. His hard work involves being an active member of the Hunting and Fishing task force, hunting and fishing for potlatches, building caskets for our loved ones who passed on, and taking the lead in many search and rescue efforts. Tom has attended community events in many different villages and Fairbanks, assisting where needed, asking nothing in return; and
WHEREAS, Tom Kriska speaks freely and honestly to men and women about overcoming his own battle with alcohol/drugs and how this changed his life. Tom’s advocacy of living a healthy lifestyle and teaching traditional/cultural values is welcomed and comforting to many of us.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Tanana Chiefs Conference Full Board of Directors honors the extraordinary leadership and volunteerism of Tom Kriska to the Alaska Native people and villages of Interior Alaska.
