Last month, Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) leadership attended the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) Annual Convention in New Orleans. This year’s Convention included several important elections including President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Area Vice-Presidents and alternate Area Vice-Presidents.
During the Alaska Caucus, Chief Brian Ridley was elected to serve as the Alaska Area Vice-President for NCAI alongside Tlingit & Haida Vice President Clinton Cook who was elected as alternate. In their new roles, they will serve a two-year term on NCAI’s Executive Committee, which is charged with advancing the mission of NCAI to protect and advance tribal sovereignty by representing the issues and priorities of tribal nations throughout the country.
In addition to this, several individuals were newly elected to the NCAI Executive Board:
- President: Mark Macarro, Chairman of Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians
- Vice-President: President Brian Weeden, Chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe
- Secretary: Nickolaus D. Lewis, Lummi Nation councilmember
- Treasurer: David Woerz, Chickasaw Nation Legislator
During the Convention, TCC submitted two resolutions:
- Resolution NO-23-004: Promoting Access to Pharmacy Services at Tribal Health Organizations
- Resolution NO-23-005: Supporting Tribal Consultation in the Drug Enforcement Administration Rulemaking Process
