Going into a mail service business can be a rewarding venture, especially if you live in a remote village with limited mail service. The U.S. Postal Service relies on contractors for help in remote areas to deliver mail. A contractor who delivers mail to a rural area may be an individual (sole proprietor) or an organization.
To get started:
- Set up your business. For more help in setting up a business in Alaska, visit the Alaska Small Business Development Center https://aksbdc.org/
- If you already have a business, add contract delivery service to your services.
- If you are an organization, you will register with SAM, you will be assigned a Unique Entity ID: https://sam.gov
- Apply for a Transportation Contract through USPS.
