Alaska Native people continue to be impacted with the highest rate of violence than any other race in America and the issues of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons continues to be a priority for TCC and its Tribes.
Indigenous persons experience disproportionately high rates of violence, and, relatedly, are reported missing or are murdered at high rates. Alaska Natives experience disproportionate rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes, according to the Indian Law and Order Commission’s 2013 report.

Fact About Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons
In January 2025, Alaska reported 20 of 1,359 missing persons cases to the state’s Department of Public Safety; women and girls comprised 69% of AI/AN murder victims in 2024, though reported percentages varied between quarters.
In 2024, Alaska DPS data showed women and girls accounted for a majority of AI/AN murder victims in that year’s reporting.
Between 2021 and 2023, law enforcement recorded over 25,800 violent crime incidents and 8,500 sexual offenses involving AI/AN female victims.
