Youth Survivors Camp

This camp is a reestablished camp located at 6 mile and newly renovated for seasonal camps with youth. The cultural focus of the camp was on fishing, processing, smoking, and cooking salmon along with Gwich’in language, traditional plants, traditional games, tanning skin, Elder stories, song and dance, and fiddle dancing. Wellness activities included family roles, traditional roles of men and women, tobacco prevention, Athabascan values, staying in school and respect.

  • Participation: 60 people. The camp had participants ranging from 4 years old to Elders from Fort Yukon, Fairbanks, Chalkyitsik, Arctic Village, and Venetie.
