On Saturday, November 15, the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center was filled with a sense of peace, grounding, and community during the Indigenous Healing Winter Gathering. More than 50 participants came together for a one-day experience centered on reconnecting with traditional practices, strengthening cultural identity, and healing in a supportive, welcoming space.
The day began outdoors with a smudging ceremony, where participants gathered in the crisp winter air to cleanse, reflect, and set intentions. Surrounded by the quiet of the season, the ceremony invited everyone to step into the gathering with openness and a clear spirit. Once inside, Dr. Allison Kelliher shared a message of wellness and cultural remembrance, setting a powerful foundation for the experience ahead.
Soon after, the Dene’ Eslaanh Dance Group invited everyone to join in singing and dancing—filling the atrium with movement, joy, and shared energy. From there, attendees explored offerings from a talented group of Indigenous healers and practitioners. Energy healers, counselors, and acupuncturists provided personalized support, while tea, beadwork, and plant medicine stations offered hands-on learning and moments of creativity and reflection. Soft, soothing music played throughout the atrium, creating a calming atmosphere as participants visited each space at their own pace.
This winter gathering served not only as a healing space, but as a celebration of cultural strength, resilience, and community connection—reminding us that wellness is deeply rooted in tradition, togetherness, and honoring who we are.
The next Indigenous Healing Gathering will take place on March 7, 2026. We hope to see you there!
