Resolution 2019-16: Elder Home in Tok for Upper Tanana Region


WHEREAS, Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) is an Alaska Native tribal health and social services consortium established by the Interior Alaska tribes and tribal communities, to provide a unified voice in advancing sovereign tribal governments through the promotion of physical and mental wellness, education, socioeconomic development and culture of the Interior Alaska Native; and

WHEREAS, Tok Native Association (TNA) is made up of members of Upper Tanana Villages. All members are tribally enrolled in member villages: Tetlin, Northway, Eagle, Tanacross, Healy Lake and Dot Lake; and

WHEREAS,  TNA has members that want to stay in the Upper Tanana region if Elder home was available; and

WHEREAS,  this resolution will support the need of an Elder home for the Upper Tanana Region, so our Elders can remain close to home and have more frequent family visits; and

WHEREAS,  Tok or the Upper Tanana does not have housing, assisted living for our Elders.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the TCC Full Board of Directors supports the establishment of an Elder home in the Upper Tanana Region and directs staff to seek funding to create a business plan to create a sustainable elder home; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Full Board of Directors directs TCC staff to assist TNA in identifying and securing a location for an elder home in Tok.
