Resolution 2017-17: Physician Support Staff at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center

WHEREAS, The Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center is understaffed; and

WHEREAS, Understaffing creates an appointment waitlist, patients becoming frustrated with not being seen by a physician, and the cancellation of patient appointments; and

WHEREAS, Physicians are limited in how many patients they can see in a day because they do not have enough time to conduct case reviews on their patients: chemistry panels and complete blood count, pharmacy prescriptions, follow up appointments with specialists, and other patient assessments; and

WHEREAS, To increase the number of patients a physician can see in a day, the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center should hire more nurses and case managers to conduct these case reviews on patients; and

WHEREAS, To increase the number of patients seen by a physician in a day, the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center should also hire more Certified Medical Assistants to assist physicians with each patient appointment, especially in terms of vitals and lab appointments.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Tanana Chiefs Conference Full Board of Directors hereby directs staff to work with the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center in hiring more nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, and case managers to ensure that physicians can see more patients in a day and that patients receive a high quality of care, subject to availability of funds.
