The remains of 35 year old Andrew John, resident of Arctic Village and Fairbanks, who went missing in the Chena River near the Wendell Street Bridge on August 7th, 2014, have been found.
John’s body was found late in the evening on August 12th, near the south bank of the Chena River near the Carlson Center.
Tanana Chiefs Conference, Fairbanks Native Association and Doyon, Limited would like to thank the many volunteers and community members who offered help and donations during the search efforts.
Sergeant Jody Juneby Potts, who has been the Incident Commander for the search, had the following statement: “I would like to share our sincere gratitude for all the volunteers who worked countless hours during the search efforts. We couldn’t have performed such a thorough and professional search without the community volunteers who offered their time and personal boats to help. Our VPSOs did a fantastic job in aiding in the efforts as well. We hope this brings the much needed closure for the family, and we will stand with them.”
Victor Joseph, TCC President, said “I’d like to thank all the agencies and those who assisted and donated during the search, our prayers remain with the family.”
A fundraiser will be held at the Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall, Friday August 15th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to raise funds for the family’s funeral and travel expenses. Lunches will be available at a $10.00 suggested donation. Any donations are greatly needed and can be brought to the Tribal Hall the day of.
