We believe that each person is entitled to holistic care that addresses emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical needs. We strive to form partnerships with our clients and create individualized treatment plans with services that focus on client needs.

Our Services

There are several avenues to access our Behavioral Health Services

  • Call and Make An Appointment. Call 1-800-478-6822 ext.3800 to set up an appointment for a screening or speak to an on-call clinician.
  • Call or Walk-In. We will connect you with our crisis clinician who is available for walk-ins for high need cases. Providers are on a rotating schedule.
  • Ask your provider to speak with a BHC. If you are at the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center ask to speak with a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC). 
  • Refer a family member. If you feel a family member is suicidal, homicidal, or appears psychotic, profoundly delusional or grossly disorganized, please contact us directly and we can help you with the next steps.

Typical steps to receive Behavioral Health services:

  1. Screening: Screenings are conducted to help us identify the best
    treatment available to meet your needs.
  2. Referral: Recommendation and a referral to services at the appropriate level
    of care
  3. Intake and Enrollment: During Intake (admission to the program) you will be required to complete numerous forms, consents and releases. Program policies and procedures will be explained to you and you will be given copies of all of the forms you sign.

Behavioral Health works in partnership with the Medical Department and Prevention and Wellness to provide prevention services throughout Interior Alaska, including tobacco policy and prevention, behavioral health and substance use education, suicide prevention, safety, and diabetes prevention.

Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center

Behavioral Health Consultants are located at Chief Peter John Tribal Building and Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center. They provide mental health and substance use screenings, brief interventions, and health education.

Pretreatment

We have Clinical Associates located in Fairbanks who work in partnership with our outpatient programs, providing Early Intervention Services to clients including individual counseling, group counseling, substance use assessments, mental health and substance use prevention and education.

Therapy

A person-centered, interactive process through which an individual works with a clinician and explores thoughts, feelings and behaviors, to support the individual in achieving an improved quality of life. Our providers have specialization in various treatment approaches. Our typical cycle of care is 12 weeks. We provide services to clients starting at age 4.

Psychiatry 

A medical specialty devoted to the treatment of mental health disorders, including various emotional, behavioral, cognitive and perceptual disorders. Our psychiatrists evaluate, prescribe, and monitor medications to best meet the needs of the patient. We provide services dependent on the maturity of the patient, typically starting at age 4.

SMI Case Management

Our case managers typically work with adults who are experiencing serious mental illness (SMI). Our clients may need assistance with daily living skills, obtaining stable housing, medication management, meeting scheduled appointments, and assistance obtaining financial aid. The case manager advocates and supports clients regarding social, educational, legal, and treatment needs, and with accessing additional resources and support systems

Substance Use Services

Outpatient substance abuse treatment is offered in our rural areas with telehealth equipment. For other service areas we work in partnership with Fairbanks Native Association. Treatment is centered on a recovery oriented curriculum which assists clients with the skills to develop and maintain long-term recovery. Our substance use treatment programs are intended to treat adults.

  • Level 0.5 Prime for Life – A Level 0.5 Alcohol and Drug Education program. This 12 hour educational course teaches clients how to reduce risk for drinking.
  • Level 1.0 Outpatient – A Level 1.0 Outpatient Addictions program with a minimum of 3 hours per week of structured treatment to help clients address mild to moderate substance use disorders. Includes both individual and group counseling.
  • Level 2.1 Intensive Outpatient – This Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides a minimum of 9 hours per week of highly structured treatment to help clients address moderate to severe substance use disorders. This programs includes both individual and group counseling, addresses a wide range of issues including, but not limited to: relapse prevention, models of addiction, triggers, managing emotions, physical effects of alcohol and other drugs, stages of change, thinking errors, and other factors impacting life functions.
  • Continuing Care – The first 6 months following treatment is a critical time period, where there is a high likelihood of relapse. We are happy to provide continuing care for those clients who have completed substance use treatment, but need continued support in their sobriety. Our continuing care program focuses on enhancing coping skills, and providing support and education. Typically once a week through individual or group counseling.

Old Minto Family Recovery Camp 

A traditional substance use treatment program at the Old Minto Village site. It was originally designed to provide services to families although individuals often attend alone. This is a 35 day minimum program designed to develop and maintain long term substance use recovery and overall wellness.

Paul Williams House

A supportive living program for clients who are experiencing chronic mental illness. It is designed to support and provide the life skills necessary for clients to move to independent living in the community. This program is limited to 10 residents.

Adolescent Treatment Facility

We partner with the Fairbanks Native Association to provide an Adolescent Treatment Facility for youth suffering from drug and alcohol abuse. Our program, also known as Graf Rheenerhanjii (the Healing Place), is a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for American Indian/Alaska Native youth between the ages of 12 and 18.

Behavioral Health Aide Program (BHA)

TCC employs many Behavioral Health Aides at various levels of expertise throughout the TCC region. The BHAs work under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical supervisor.

A Behavioral Health Aide may be a counselor, health educator, and advocate to help address community behavioral health needs which include alcohol, drug, and tobacco abuse and other problems such as grief, depression, suicide, and related issues. Our BHAs seek to achieve balance in the community by integrating their sensitivity to cultural needs with specialized training in behavioral health concerns and approaches to treatment (www.anthc.org).
