What will I do at the Earth Work Quest Summit Gathering?

Individual Earth Work Quest interns and mentors will be brought together for a summit gathering from July 30-August 3, 2007.  It will take place in the fairly remote Chena River State Recreation Area, some 30 miles from Fairbanks.  This will involve living in a camp setting with the other interns who have shared a similar summer experience.  Besides helping with the cleaning and cooking (yes, cooking), you will interact closely with agency representatives, representatives from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Alaska Native Science and Engineering (ANSEP) program.  You will also discuss Traditional Environmental Knowledge (TEK) with Native Elders. The interns will take part in an eight mile, overnight backpacking trip. This shared adventure will end with a hike down the mountain to the Chena Hot Springs Resort where warm waters wait plus an evening banquet.  At the banquet, interns will give presentations on their individual internship experiences and will be able to interact with an even larger group of assembled natural resource professionals.
