Low-Income Weatherization Program

When it comes to paying the bills other than the rent or a mortgage payment the most expensive aspect of owning a home is heating it. Through the low-income weatherization program , we install storm windows, add more insulation, make heating system improvements and make other energy-efficient improvements for qualifying households.. The program is available to eligible low-income Alaskans and can help save families or individuals money by lowering the cost of heating their homes

Who is eligible?

The weatherization provided is based on the income of those who live in the house. All household residents' income is included, and the total cannot exceed 60 percent of the federally determined median income in 2006. That median can be found on the table below. Income is based on the household's last 12 months' income. Renters and homeowners are eligible. The chart below outlines the income levels.

BIA-Housing Improvement Program

The Housing Improvement Program (HIP) is a grant program to help Indians repair and renovate existing housing and in some special cases, build new homes. The program is for those who are unable to obtain housing assistance from other sources. Please view the Income Guideline Point Schedule located below along with the HIP checklist and application.
